"Children want an image, and want to think of themselves as an image, too. It is just in these things that we see how the teacher needs to use imagination, to be artistic, for then the teacher will meet the children with a truly “living” quality of soul. And this living quality works upon the children in an imponderable way—imponderable in the best sense."
Rudolf Steiner
This lecture will look in depth at how we can as teachers build and create images that are best suited to the children we teach.
How do we engage our creative imagination and find the images we need to bring the children living images?
Learning to use wax blocks to find form from colour
This course is six sessions and will teach participants how to explore form through colour. The course will look at how to hold and use wax blocks on the page, creating fields of colour, then from these fields find form and develop drawings.
We will work specifically with themes from the lower school and look at how to, not only, begin to master this medium but how to teach it to children.

Learning the art of line as imprint of movement
Form Drawing was a new subject introduced into the first Waldorf school by Rudolf Steiner in 1919. This Subject Lesson draws on a deep understanding of Child Development and aims to support the child to develop spatially.
The Forms which the children will move and then draw in the lessons are a representation of the spatial world that surrounds them. Deriving inspiration from the entire natural world, each Form enables the child to become aware of their world through movement using the whole body to interact with the Form.
Form Drawing is not only a Subject Lesson in the Waldorf school but can be further used therapeutically and as a path of inner personal development. This course will lead you through the approaches necessary in the classroom to enliven the work and then will show you how these Forms can deepen your own experiences as a teacher and adult.
We will learn to understand how these Forms work on the social body of the class and on the children individually, helping to develop the children’s etheric bodies. Furthermore, we will learn how working with these Forms will enhancing your work with the temperaments of the children in your care.
We will start with day one of Class one, the straight line and curved line, and work our way up through the years until we reach freehand geometry and knotted Celtic Forms. Additionally, there will be time spent on Forms for adults and teachers to use to advance their understanding of Form Drawing and how to teach them and further our own inner personal development.
